Trump to visit UK in July, according to reports
(WebFG News) - An announcement in the next few days is expected to confirm reports that US President Donald Trump will visit the UK in July.
The President's visit, initially reported by Sky News, will be his first since he was elected in 2016 after plans for President Trump to open the new US embassy in January were scrapped following his assertion that the new building was too expensive.
The President had allegedly informed Prime Minister Theresa May of his intention to visit the UK at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Over 1.8m people have signed a petition demanding that Trump should not be allowed to visit the UK and the prospect of large scale protests has scuppered plans for a procession up the Mall and a state banquet.
As such, the July visit is expected to be a low-key working affair.
Speaking this weekend, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who has a history of butting heads with the President, called for any protests to be "lawful and "peaceful".
"I have no doubt that if he does come, there will be some people who want to express their views loudly and peacefully to the President," said Khan.
Trump has also enjoyed a tumultuous relationship with Theresa May who has openly chastised the President for retweeting videos from the far-right Britain First group and joined universal criticism from UK politicians of his rhetoric following white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
