Tuesday preview: US tech earnings, LSE and St.James's Place in focus
(WebFG News) - Corporate results in the States will centre attention tomorrow, especially those from tech giant Alphabet, Google's owner.
Equity strategists at JP Morgan believe that US corporates are set, on average, to deliver a positive mid-single digit surprise in their aggregate earnings per share for the first quarter reporting season.
Against that backdrop, investors will likely be watching to see if positive results can reverse the tide of selling that swept over the sector over the past few months.
While Alphabet was set to update investors after the close of trading in New York, on Monday, UK markets wouldn't get a chance to react until Tuesday.
Among the slew of US corporates set to publish their latest results on Tuesday were, Amgen, Biogen, Caterpillar, JetBlue Airways and Texas Instruments.
Back in the UK, Shire's AGM might possibly throw up some interesting headlines.
Updates from the London Stock Exchange Group and St.James's Place will likely also make for an interesting read ahead of the results from several of the main High Street banking groups later in the week.
For the latter, analysts at Deutsche Bank were calling for flat income quarter-on-quarter but up 13% year-on-year, helped by topline growth of 4% at its LCH unit on the back of the heightened volatility that was on display in markets during February and March.
On St.James's Place, analysts at Numis told clients to expect assets under management of £89.5bn, alongside £2.4bn in quarterly net flows and -£3.6bn in performance.
Ahead of the company's AuM numbers, analyst David McCann said: "We continue to hold SJP in very high regard and believe it should continue to be a core long-term sector holding for many investors. We believe that the business will continue to demonstrate that it is one of the most consistent and resilient asset gatherers (and retainers), regardless of the economic conditions."
