Seven out of eight British workers prioritise job satisfaction over salary
Only 12% of British workers consider salary to be the most important factor in their job, according to data from job site Indeed.
Over half of those interviewed meanwhile said they would turn down a pay rise if it meant working in an environment they didn't like.
Indeed, nearly a quarter, or 24% said an enjoyable job was the most important when deciding on a workplace in their work, while 21% said that good colleagues were a key ingredient when it came to being happy in the workplace.
Around 34% of people said they would turn down a job offer if they were told negative things about the work environment by peers.
Nonetheless, that did not mean UK workers were happy with their pay, with 53% of respondents claiming their salary was inappropriate.
Bill Richards, UK Managing Director of Indeed said: "It's striking to learn that the vast majority of Britons are not motivated primarily by how much a job pays.
"Many of us spend more time at work than we do with our friends and families, so it is vital that our environment and colleagues help create a positive and stimulating atmosphere; and this is as true of how companies treat applicants as they do their existing staff."
