Microsaic reaches commercial contract with British technology centre
Mass spectrometry instruments developer Microsaic Systems has signed a commercial contract with UK-based technology and innovation centre, the Centre for Process Innovation.
Microsaic's project with the CPI will examine the potential of its microsaic mass spectrometry offering as an online, deployable tool for the elucidation of biopharmaceutical or biologic structure during the manufacturing or bioprocessing workflow.
The group's technology, a point of use analysis tool which can be integrated into complex manufacturing workflows, which has the potential to be utilised in upstream cell media, or downstream biologic purification, was believed to potentially benefit workflow from real-time data access to drive production optimisation, ensure process control compliance, and reduce risk for the final product.
"CPI brings together state of the art facilities and technical expertise to help companies overcome innovation challenges in the manufacture of biologics," the firm told investors on Wednesday.
Glenn Tracey, chief executive, said, "The UK is well positioned as one of the leading countries for process innovation, especially for high-value biologics. It is fitting, therefore, that two high-technology businesses such as Microsaic and CPI, both based in the UK, should embark on such exciting knowledge-based work, paving the way for enabling technologies to meet the future quality and compliance needs in biopharma."
As of 1210 GMT, shares had picked up 14.29% to 2.40p.
