London Market Today - FTSE 100 drops sharply as banking fears ripple through London markets
FTSE 100 fell 1.6% as US banking worries spread to London. Barclays and Standard Chartered led losses while bonds rallied on safe-haven demand.

London stocks ended Thursday slightly higher, with the FTSE 100 nudging up 0.1% to 9,436, or 11 points.
LONDON MARKET OPEN: Stocks slump on US credit worries
The FTSE 100 index slumped 151.41 points, 1.6%, at 9,284.65. The FTSE 250 dropped 306.86 points lower, 1.4%, at 21,684.50 while the AIM All-Share gave back 8.73 points, 1.1%, to 781.16.
LONDON MARKET EARLY CALL: FTSE 100 set for gloomy open after Asia fall
In China on Friday, the Shanghai Composite was down 1.2% in afternoon trade, the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong shed 1.8%. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 slumped 1.5%. Sydney's S&P/ASX 200 was down 0.8%.

Spot silver prices retreated after hitting an all-time high earlier Tuesday, as a historic squeeze in London began to show some signs of easing, although supply remains remarkably tight.
