Connemara Mining drilling underway at priority gold targets
Irish zinc and gold explorer Connemara Mining has restarted drilling operations at its Mine River Gold Project.
The company's drilling project comprises a total of 1,000 metres at prioritised targets at Tombreen, where the drilling results reported 16.1 g/t gold over 2 metres from 78 metres depth, and at Knocknalour which lies 2.5km to the southwest.
Patrick Cullen, chief executive of Connemara, said: "We are pleased to report drilling has re-commenced at our Mine River gold project. We had very encouraging results at the Tombreen Prospect and are looking to build on that. Tombreen and Knocknalour lie along the significant 15 kilometre target trend we have identified at Mine River. With this drilling we want to confirm high-grade gold mineralisation while expanding strike-length."
Both targets were identified with the use of an airborne geophysics survey by Hendrick Resources in 2012, soil and rock geochemical surveys and historic drilling which have shown proven gold mineralisation.
The best reported historical intersection at the Tombreen site was 50cm grading at 21.28 g/t Au from 70.7m.
Elsewhere, Connemara Mining has zinc projects at Stonepark, Oldcastle, Derrykearn, Ladyswell and another gold project at Inishowen in Donegal, comprising of eleven licences.
As of 1527 BST, Connemara Mining's shares were up 5.63% at 3.75p.
