Bluejay Mining's Disko project now as large as Luxembourg
Greenland-focused explorer Bluejay Mining has almost doubled the size its land package at its Disko-Nuussuaq project in the south west of the country, boosting it to 2,586 square kilometres.
Following the grant for an increased licence, the Disko-Nuussuaq magmatic massive sulphide (MMS) nickel-copper-platinum project is now approximately the size of Luxembourg and, the AIM-listed company said, will see a work programme announced soon.
Chief executive Roderick McIllree said "This increase in licence grant almost doubles our landholding at Disko, which has clear similarities to other great MMS systems of the world. We believe in the geological model defined by several majors before us and will work to unlock value here during 2018."
Disko has seen positive results from recently completed internal studies and is believed to be comparable in mineralisation to the nickel/copper sulphide mine Norilsk-Talnakh, Russia, where multiple MMS targets were identified.
"We have several parties interested in partnering with us on this project and we will carefully evaluate these individually to determine the best way forward for shareholders. Work will focus on developing drill targets in the newly enlarged project and will run in parallel to our primary development work at the Dundas Ilmenite Project," said McIllree.
The Dundas project is the highest grade ilmenite project anywhere in the world and has a work programme, like that of Disko, which is set to be announced this year.
As of 1000 BST, Bluejay Mining's shares were up 2.00% at 25.50p.
