Accrol Group ditches plastics in UK first
Soft tissue product manufacturer Accrol Group Holdings on Tuesday became the first UK tissue converter to offer customers a plastic-free solution on all its products.
The AIM traded firm said it has worked with supply partners to develop a new, commercially viable and "environmentally beneficial" paper-wrapping solution for its range of products, in order to help customers reduce single-use plastic consumption.
Gareth Jenkins, chief executive of Accrol, said: "This packaging is now available to all our customers. We are determined to lead the tissue industry in the UK and will achieve this by listening closely to our customers and reacting rapidly to their changing needs. I hope that our commitment to offering plastic-free tissue products and reducing the impact of the industry on the environment will encourage others in our sector to follow suit."
Plastic packaging has become an industry norm for tissue manufacturers over the past three decades but Accrol said its change had been driven by environmental campaigns such as Sky Ocean Rescue.
Dan Wright, chairman of Accrol, added: "I am delighted that the team has been able to develop a viable and sustainable alternative for our industry. This marks a step change for the business, retailers and consumers."
As of 0943 BST, Accrol Group Holdings' shares were up 1.32% at 23.05p.
