Staples quarterly profit falls
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Staples Inc , the biggest U.S. specialty retailer of office supplies, reported lower quarterly profit on Tuesday, hurt by a charge related to a class-action settlement and lower same-store sales in its U.S. stores.

Virgin to ask N.Rock’s small investors for $1,600
LONDON (Reuters) – Diehard retail investors in Northern Rock Plc would be asked to invest about 770 pounds ($1,600) in the company if a proposed Richard Branson-led rescue of the stricken mortgage bank proceeds.
