UK car production rose for the fourth month in a row in February, surging 63% as the weak pound made British goods more attractive to overseas buyers.
Output jumped to 97,255 last month, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), taking the total for the year so far to almost 200,000.
Carmakers exported 70,482 cars, 72.5% of the total made, with the other 26,773 up for sale in the UK.
"Sterling movement has made UK-built products more competitive, enabling the UK to work through challenging economic conditions," said SMMT chief executive, Paul Everitt.
"UK-built engines and vehicles are exported to over 100 markets worldwide, offering some resilience to local market conditions."
But there's an element of caution ahead of Alistair Darling's Budget on March 24.
"Industry looks to next week's Budget to maintain stability in demand through continued investment in new products," said Everitt, as the hugely successful car scrappage scheme draws to an end this month.
