The glut of end-year results looks to be drying up, leaving much of the field clear for second-liners to grab a bit of attention.

International security firm G4S brings out full year results on Tuesday. Market expectations are for underlying profit before tax to climb to £366m from £336m the year before. Revenue is tipped to rise to smash through the seven billion barrier to £7.06bn, up from £5.94bn in 2008.

Organic revenue growth at the nine month point was a creditable 4.2% compared to the 2008 performance, though the figure was down from 4.8% at the halfway stage. Analysts will be interested to see whether the growth rate continued to slide in the final quarter.

On Wednesday the minutes from the most recent meeting of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) are released. As expected, the MPC kept its key lending rates unchanged and held firm on its decision to turn the Quantitative Easing (QE) tap off.


The day before the MPC release, the US Federal Reserve's rate setting committee, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), will announce its interest rate decision. No change is expected but there has been speculation that the FOMC will signal a willingness to start cranking up the rate at some point this year by removing the phrase 'extended period' from its commentary.
