Energy services giant Wood Group has won a contract with Nexen Petroleum UK at the Golden Eagle Area Development (GEAD) project in the North Sea.
The contract, worth $50m, will see Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) carry out the hook-up and commissioning of GEAD, which is located around 110km north-east of Aberdeen.
The Golden Eagle field will be developed using two platforms (a wellhead platform and a production, utility and living quarters platform) and first production is expected in late 2014.
WGPSN will employ 100 personnel from its headquarters in Aberdeen to provide management labour, materials, services and equipment for the contract.
"This is a key project for WGPSN and we are very proud to have been selected by Nexen to provide support to one of the most significant offshore developments in the UK Continental Shelf," said WGPSN's UK Managing Director Dave Stewart.
"We will be deploying a high performing management team, familiar with Nexen's assets and processes, who have a track record of developing a positive project work culture that delivers results safely and on time."
Wood Group's shares edged 0.12% higher to 804p in early trading on Thursday.
