Spain's latest monthly unemployment figures reveal more of the same, with the number of unemployed people continuing to rise.

According to the Ministry of Employment, unemployment rose by 1.7% in September to a total of 4.7m unemployed people, an increase of 79.465.

In September of last year, unemployment had risen by 95,817.

Nevertheless, analysts were expecting unemployment to pick up due to the end of the temporary summer job period but had only expected a rise of 57,000. In seasonally-adjusted terms, unemployment rose by 25,078 people.

Unemployment fell 1.61% in agriculture and 1.26% in construction but rose 3.07% in services.

Some 1,241,191 new contracts were signed, a 10.94% decline from a year ago.

The total number of people enrolled in the Social Security system fell by 86,174 to 16,809,803.
