US exports fell 1.8 per cent per cent in December

The US trade deficit increased to 38.7bn dollars in December, according to the Commerce Department.
The previous estimate was revised higher to show a gap of $34.6bn versus the $34.3bn initially reported.
Exports dropped by 1.8% month-on-month to reach $191.3bn, with decreases seen across a broad swathe of sectors.
Imports gained 0.3% on the month to $230bn.
For all of 2013, the trade gap narrowed 11.8% to $471.5bn - the least since 2009.
