Anite yesterday issued a cautious trading statement, but the market seems to have overreacted. More than anything else, the company seems to have wanted to rein in analysts, so as to avoid further earnings upgrades for this year and next, The Times´s Tempus writes. But coming into the trading statement at 20 times this year´s earnings the above was enough to knock the shares off their perch. However, with no huge change in the opportunities for the business from 4G, one of the company´s main underlying drivers, the share price fall looks overdone and suggests a rare buying opportunity, the widely read columnist believes.
Investors who took a punt on gambling stocks, such as Ladbrokes, William Hill, Bwin.party or 888, have had a good time, so much so that they are now doubling up their bets. A word of caution though, says the FT´s Lex column. While sports betting is the biggest online opportunity in the gambling space here in the UK it is still only permitted in four US states and delays to new legislation in New Jersey are still possible. In fact, as well, Deutsche Bank analysts estimate that in the first year pre-tax profits from online gambling in that US state may be less than $90m.
Industrial property company Hansteen Holdings has increased the value of its portfolio to well over £1bn and has lowered the vacancy rate to 18%, from 20%. That comes as some observers, such as The Times, report on a looming shortage of warehouse space in some areas as retail outfits look to jump into the on-line universe. As well, there are fears that West End and City property values may be in the midst of an unsustainable bubble. Most importantly, furthermore, the company is offering a dividend yield of 5.7 per cent for the current financial year. Even so Tempus suspects further rises in the share price may be limited.
