Trump boasts about $1.6bn budget to start border wall
Trump has taken to Twitter to boast about securing $1.6bn from the US budget bill to start building the Mexican border wall. He claims that he had to "waste money on Dem giveaways".
The US Congress finished a $1.3trn budget bill on Wednesday that boosts the military sector and domestic spending in the US. According to Trump's tweet $700bn will go to rebuilding the military this year and $716bn for 2019.
He also said that "Democrats refused to take care of DACA. Would have been so easy, but they just didn't care. I had to fight for Military and start of Wall."
The Trump administration put an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that protected young illegal immigrants that were brought in the US as children from being deported. There has been no resolution for them in the new bill.
"We are disappointed that we did not reach agreement on Dreamer protections that were worthy of these patriotic young people," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Another key issue of the bill was the legislative response for gun violence especially after the recent school shooting in Florida. Leaders have agreed to boost school safety funds and improve background checks when purchasing firearms.
