While Thursday's meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) may prove quite interesting, the Bank of England (BoE) announcement on the day is expected to be a non-event, with policy expected to hold steady and minutes from the meeting not revealed until 20 August.
As a result, Thursday's macro eyes will be on European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi as he speak to the press following the policy decision.
No major policy announcement is expected from the ECB, but the committee's bias towards further easing measures will be scrutinised for potential shifts now that the single currency seems to be finally weakening.
Consumer price inflation in the Eurozone is expected to stabilise and then begin trending higher in the latter part of the year. However, the latest data would seem to show that the possibility still exists for downside surprises, even if driven by non-core prices.
In the US there is only the initial jobless claims on Thursday that will gain much attention.
Rio Tinto and Randgold Resources are two in the company arena that will receive focus.
Rio has been hurt by metals demand slipped back as the emerging markets on which the company depends have seen growth stall.
China may still be powering ahead relative to the West, but the massive stimulus programmes that bred such demand for raw materials are a thing of the past.
Rio will release second-quarter earnings and Randgold will have first-half results. Both reports will be out before markets open.
Rio is expected to report a 3.9% rise in first-half revenue to $25.475bn and earnings per share (EPS) of $2.663.
Unlike many gold miners, Africa-focused Randgold has managed to increase production while keeping costs low and its balance sheet reasonably healthy.
It is forecast to report quarterly revenue somewhere between $278m and of $289m, with EPS expected to leap 42% to $0.71.
