Sirius Minerals said Thursday that the York Potash Project has progressed after the company delivered application documents for the onshore mining and mine access infrastructure to the North York Moors National Park Authority.

The authority is now reviewing the application documents and is expected to formally validate receipt of the application in early February.

Chris Fraser, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sirius said: "This is a major milestone for the company and one that we believe brings us closer to the first day of construction and production at the York Potash Project. This is a nationally significant project with many local benefits and we have been extremely grateful for the wide ranging support received during our extensive pre-application public consultations.

"A huge amount of technical work and studies have gone into the application and we have put forward a robust planning case that we believe meets the required planning policy. We look forward to continuing to deliver this important project as quickly as possible."

The share price rose 1.82% to 28p by 13:10.
