EU commissary for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn hasn't ruled out the possibility that Spain will eventually need to request a bailout.
In an interview with six Spanish newspapers, Rehn noted the drop in Spanish financing costs but was wary of declaring the scare to be over.
"The pressure has eased, but it's important to keep a safety net with the European bailout fund (ESM) and European Central Bank (ECB) sovereign bond purchases," he said in comments quoted by El PaĆs.
Furthermore, although Rehn admitted that the situation "is difficult for the ordinary citizen", he insisted that there was no alternative to reforms because "there was simply no way out for Spain".
On the other hand, Eurogroup Chairman Jean-Claude Juncker appeared to be more optimistic in an interview with the German news agency DPA as he considered the case to be shut.
"The Spanish government is not going to request a bailout", he said. The head of Eurozone finance ministers also added that he considered "all speculation on the question to be superfluous, if not harmful".
