RBI keeps rates at 8%, lowers banks´ cash requirements

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has just announced its decision to maintain its main policy rate unchanged at 8%, although banks´ reserve ratio requirement has been lowered by 25 basis points, to 4.5%.
The reserve requirement is the percentage of cash which lenders are obliged by the monetary authority to maintain on deposit at the central bank.
