Shares in aim listed gold production and exploration firm Norseman Gold fell over 10% as it released its quarterly update.

In the three months to end September, mining continued at the North Royal open pit in Australia with an estimated 66,000 tonnes containing around 3,600 ounces of gold now stockpiled for blending with hard rock ore.

The Australia-focused miner said hard rock ore is expected from the North Royal open pit in the December quarter.

Ore mined from underground and open pit operations increased for the third consecutive quarter while gold produced for the quarter was 11,631 ounces at a direct cash operating cost of A$1,591 per ounce of gold

"The production outlook is expected to improve through the next quarter as new personnel are employed to alleviate the current manpower issue in the underground mines and as the North Royal open pit continues to be mined towards hard rock ore," said Norseman in a company update.

Cash at the end of the quarter totalled A$8.9m or A$7.5m excluding gold bullion.
