European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn has said that France will have an additional year to bring its budget deficit in line with the three percent target if it carries out reforms, such as pension reform.
In regards to Spain, Rehn said that it's own budget deficit target could be adjusted in order to reflect the time and efforts needed to bring down the deficit. However, he added that additional information is needed.
He explained that real data for 2012 must guarantee that the structural efforts are being applied.
Rumors had it that Spain would be give an additional two years to bring its deficit to 3.0%.
