High Street retailer Debenhams plummeted after it admitted its UK business had been 'severely disrupted' by the snow in the latter part of January.

The group said that whilst group like-for-like sales grew by around 3.0% for the 26 weeks to March 2nd, during the snow-affected period of January 14th-27th UK like-for-like sales were down by around 10%.

This stood in stark contrast to figures out today which show that the High Street has seen a 3.9% rise in sales as shoppers go in search of a bargain. Dixons Retail was just one of the High Street names benefiting from the news.

Meanwhile, integrated energy giant Essar Energy rose on the news it has been granted phase III environmental clearance for its coal bed methane gas field at Raniganj, West Bengal, which allows it to increase drilling to 650 wells on the block.
