In yesterday evening's meeting, the Eurozone finance ministers chose Jeroen Dijsselbloem to replace Jean-Claude Juncker as Eurogroup president.

The choice was not unexpected, but neither was it unanimous. According to news reports, Spanish economy minister Luis de Guindos objected to the appointment because he felt that his country "doesn't have the representation it deserves" at the European Union (EU) level.

Meanwhile, the rest of the EU's finance ministers will meet up with their Eurozone counterparts at the Ecofin meeting scheduled for this morning. A "ministerial breakfast" is set to begin at 8:00 London time and the official meeting is expected to start at 9:00. The main topic on today's agenda is the continuation of talks over the financial transaction tax.
