This morning, Spanish discount grocer DIA reported first half net income of €4.69m compared to the €18.8m loss generated in the same period of last year.
Sales reached €4.785bn, 1.5% more than the €4.671bn obtained in the first half of 2010. The company closed the first half of the year with 6,464 stores.
Gross operating income grew 10.1% to €233.8m, as operating costs fell 0.3% to €770m. Alongside these results, DIA confirmed progress in its "2009-2012 Cost Control and Productivity Increase Plan."
Despite economic problems in the country, DIA's gross sales in Spain increased 1.6% to €2.276bn.
Shares of DIA were 5.22% higher at €2.78 by 12:35 in Madrid.
