International infrastructure group Balfour Beatty has announced that BK Gulf, its joint venture in Dubai, has been awarded a mechanical and electrical engineering contract to work on a project at Dubai International Airport.

The £64m contract, which has been awarded by the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), is to install the electrical, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and fire protection systems in the new airport concourse facility that will also include new aircraft stands and passenger boarding lounges.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew McNaughton, said: "We are delighted to be involved in this project which will help benefit millions of air travellers. Transportation is a key strategic area for us and aviation is right at the heart of that."

This project is no exception where we have a design solution that will mean the new facilities we install will be powered by renewable energy through photovoltaic and solar panels."
