The Balearic Islands regional government has requested 355m euros from Spain's regional bailout fund, the region's Economic Vice-President Josep Ignasi Aguiló announced in a press conference.
Of the requested amount, €189m will be used to pay debt obligations and the remainder will go towards ordinary budget financing.
Aguiló pointed out that other regions have already turned to the central government's fund in order to improve their financing. He said that the conditions offered by this fund were advantageous.
The Balearic Islands becomes the seventh Spanish region to request aid from the central government, following Canary Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia, and Murcia. These requests already make up most of the €18bn that will be made available to the fund.
