Automakers at Japan to Start Manufacturing on Monday

Tsunami on March 11th, 2011 was worst earth quake ever faced by Japan in its history. The aftermath of the disaster severely affected the country’s economy and halted production at every industry. Japan’s automobile industry also announced the ceasing of production. Giants such as Toyota and Honda also decided to stop their production for few weeks.

Toyota known as the largest auto manufacturer in the world has recently announced to commence the production at its all factories within the Japan starting from Monday. The resuming of operations at manufacturing plants will be carried out in different stages.

The optimistic part is that despite another severe earthquake on last Thursday with magnitude of 7.5 on Richter scale, Toyota plans are not shattered and is firm with its plan to commence its manufacturing.

The aftershocks on Thursday mainly shook the cost of northeast Japan, which resulted in loss of electric power for Renesas Electronics, known as the major supplier to Japan’s automobile industry. Renesas manufactures microcontroller chips, which happens to be one of the key components used in auto manufacturing.

Toyota is still uncertain over the supply of 150 key components used in manufacturing. Still the company plans to start production at 18 factories which will manufacture Toyota and Lexus models. The production facilities will be operational for the period of April 18th to 27th, however will be closed for after that between April 28th and May 9th in observance of Golden Week (Japan’s national holidays).

Toyota however has already started manufacturing of its three hybrid models at its two production facilities, which are operational since March 28th. Toyota is expecting to start at least one manufacturing plant by Monday which will produce two more of its models. According to an estimate the company has lost the production of almost 260,000 vehicles due to damages caused by tsunami.

Nissan Motor Co will also start its one manufacturing plant on Monday and is planning to make all of its manufacturing facilities operational by April 18th, 2011.
