"An Occasional Letter From The Collection Agency..."

Hello and welcome.

Don't worry about the title, its my username on financial bulletin boards. I have no interest in your home or car. Unless its a very fast car.

For some years now I have written an ongoing letter, using macro-economics, to try and peer into the economic future 6 to 18 months ahead. The letter was posted on a financial bulletin board to allow others discuss its topic. The problem is that often the original parts of the letters get buried as the board thread gets longer, making it difficult for people to follow the course of my thoughts and the discussion in general that followed.

So with that in mind, I have, in conjunction with www.livecharts.co.uk decided to make the letter available on a free subscription basis, to be published in an occasional manner, with a dedicated thread on the Livecharts site for discussion. The letters will not be available on Livecharts or any other website. If you subscribe, your details will not be passed to anyone else.

The letter contains no recommendations to buy or sell, indeed I leave that to all the other letters out there and to the readers own judgement. The letter is designed to make us all think about what may be coming, what macro trends are occurring and how that will affect future trends and how those trends will filter down to everyday life and help spot weak or strong areas to focus on for trading or investing. But you won't see me recommend anything.
The letter will not be full of statistics, p/e ratios, pegs etc. It will contain interesting charts, tables and publicly available documents to help spot trends and to connect thoughts and ideas. The idea is to develop more of a "think tank" theme, using available information to peer forward.

We will not be using the words of the analysts to rely on, in many ways we are looking beyond their spiel and viewing the economic world with a less bias, more judicial eye. The letters are my own thoughts and words, if I quote anyone then it will be accredited. You will not be reading reams of work by others.

The whole economic world is up for discussion, though often it will concentrate on the larger, more influential trading economies, for obvious reasons. That doesn't stop discussion about emerging markets or trading instruments beyond shares. Often its the smaller pieces of the eco-pie that signal upcoming changes for the whole dish. The letter just tries to focus on the direction of thought.

My writing style is light, my grammar is readable but may slip into bulletin shorthand at times, I will try to avoid it though. My humour is dry, very dry. The letter is designed to be readable, understandable and enjoyable - above all else.
Am I qualified as an economist or part of the analyst/broker fraternity? No, I have no formal qualifications. I will not be getting any either. I just have experience and a thirst for knowledge..... and a good memory.
Who am I? My name is Michael. I have been trading since 1998, starting off with a small portfolio of shares and moved into cfds and futures. As time went by I became more interested in trends and signposts that point toward future market moves. I became an avid follower of the US Federal Reserve and Fedspeak. From there I became a reader of all things economic, from the Bank of International Settlements to blogs. I quickly discovered there is always something new to learn. I also discovered that often the focus can be too close to the present time. Macro trends are like oil tankers, they take time to change course.

My thoughts are often bearish. Sometimes bullish. It doesn't matter, its why the discussion is needed. You note the term discussion. If a discussion persuades me, I will take it on board. It never pays to be set in your ways. Bears go long , Bulls go short.
